Portugal
Portugal is the westernmost state in continental Eurasia. Located in the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. On land, it borders only with Spain. Portugal is also governed by the Azores and Madeira, which occupy an important strategic position in the west of the Strait of Gibraltar. The largest and most important city in Portugal is Lisbon (2.1 million inhabitants with suburbs, 1996). It is the capital and main port of the country. Porto is the main city of the North, the second most populous country in the country (302.5 thousand in 1991; about 1.2 million people in the entire agglomeration). Porto, located on the right bank of the Douro River, the former capital of Portugal and the country’s largest port, is famous for its port. On the opposite bank of the Douro River is the city of Vila Nova di Gaya (31.5 thousand inhabitants in 1991), where many wine company warehouses are concentrated. Continue reading
Peru
Peru is a distant South American country with a rich history, unique architecture and extraordinary natural diversity. She is the owner of one of the new seven wonders of the world – the mysterious city of Machu Picchu and is justly proud of the rich heritage of the Inca empire. This motley country full of contrasts attracts tourists not only with its rich archaeological heritage, but also with authentic colonial architecture, exquisite gastronomy, as well as unspoiled nature in the mountains and jungle. Located in the Andes, on the west coast of South America, the country borders in the northwest with Ecuador, in the north with Colombia, in the east with Brazil, in the southeast with Bolivia and Chile. In the west, its coastline is washed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Peru is considered one of the largest countries in South America in terms of area; in this indicator, it ranks third after Brazil and Argentina. New Zealand
New Zealand, a country literally at the end of the world, consisting of a pair of large islands (North and South) and a host of small ones. It was discovered by the Dutch traveler Abel Tasman in 1642 and got its name in honor of one of the provinces of the Netherlands, Zealand. Later, another famous navigator, the Englishman James Cook, changed the Dutch name of the archipelago: Nieuw Zeeland to English New Zealand, which became the official name of the country. CLIMATE AND WEATHER
The climate in New Zealand is largely determined by the proximity of Antarctica (which is why glaciers in the south of the country do not melt even in summer) and the Pacific Ocean, which gently washes the shores of the two main islands of the state. Continue reading
